Symposium on Advisory Board Development

"Developing A Pro-Active Recruitment Plan"

Your advisory board is only as strong as the people sitting around the table. The National Advisory Board has developed a strategic process designed to identify, target, recruit and land high quality advisory board members. There are specific skills, demographics and core values that need to be established for board development. Learn what these are and discover how you can also build a strong local advisory board through intentional candidate recruitment.

"Strategic Planning I"

Immediately following the last NAOC in Dallas, the Commissioners' Conference authorized the initiation of the first ever NAB strategic planning project. In Strategic Planning I, Dr. Lyle will describe the planning process that was used to develop the NAB Strategic Plan. Workshop leaders will discuss how the work was organized to help ensure the inclusion of each member of the NAB and Commissioners' Conference in all discussions and decisions related to the Strategic Plan. Examples of Goals, Objectives and Strategies that make up the Plan will be used to illustrate some of the outcomes of the planning process. Workshop attendees will be given a preview of some of the "next steps" that are planned as implementation of the Strategic Plan gets underway in 2011.

Presented by Bobby Lyle, NAB Vice Chair & NAB Strategic Planning Committee Chair

"Strategic Planning II" (Workshop restricted to those who attended Workshop I)

Strategic Planning Workshop II is designed for NAOC attendees who want to take a "deep dive" into the strategic planning process used to develop the NAB Strategic Plan. Attendees who intend to initiate a strategic planning project in their own command will find it beneficial to participate in this workshop, which is designed around a Q & A format to ensure that specific areas of concern regarding the planning process are addressed. Participants will learn from the observations made by Dr. Lyle as he led the NAB through the strategic planning process. Dr. Lyle will also share his observations from strategic planning projects that he has led in nonprofit organizations over the past 30 years.
